The Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) is a Government Authority established by Parliament Act No. 3 of 2019. This law repealed the former Land and Water Regulatory Authority (SUMATRA) Act. LATRA is tasked with regulating the land transport sector, especially freight and passenger transport (long-distance buses, city buses, cargo vehicles, taxis, two- and three-wheeled motorcycles), rail transport and cable transport.

The headquarters of LATRA is located in Dodoma and the Authority has offices in all twenty-six (26) regions of Mainland Tanzania.
